Guisborough on the A171 towards Whitby.
Climb the dual carriageway Bank (Birk Brow) to the top of the moor. Turn right at the end of Lockwood Beck Reservoir signposted Castleton/Hutton Le Hole. Drop down into the Esk Valley, under the railway and over the river. Go up the hill to Castleton village and the ‘T’ junction with the High Street, turn left and drop down the hill. Pass the church on your left and at the next junction turn right up the hill (signposted Fryup). Follow the road into the village of Ainthorpe, and at the small village firestation (left hand side) turn right into Brooke Lane. Go up the hill past ‘The Fox and Hounds’ pub on the left, past the tennis courts, around the side of the dale until you reach the Danby Castle junction. Keep the Castle on your left and continue on to the cattle grid and you will have made it to CROSSLEY GATE FARM! |

| Leave
A1/M complex on the A64
towards Scarborough. Skirting York by
means of its outer ring-road to the South and East. Follow this
until you reach the A169 to Malton
and Pickering. When you reach Pickering there is a large roundabout, turn left here on the A170 towards Kirkbymoorside/ Helmsley. Follow this road for approximately 2/3 miles until you reach Aislaby. Turn right here at the protested right hand turn signposted to Rosedale Abbey. Pass through Rosedale with the Milburn Arms hotel on your right and continue on to the moor. Cross the cattle grid at the top of the bank and travel for approximately 3 miles, looking out for the only right hand turn which goes onto a single track road (with passing places). A large stone pillar (hidden in snow) marks this road!. Follow
this road for approximately 3 miles across the moor and descend into Little Fryup Dale. Turn
left as you join the road, and travel past Slate Hill House and Crossley
Side Farm. Continue on to
the cattle grid and you will have made it to CROSSLEY
GATE FARM! |
